Who Are the Knights of Columbus?

The Knights of Columbus were established by Father Michael J. McGivney in 1882 to provide financial security for Catholic families.

  • With more than 1.9 million members organized into 15,000 local councils in more than a dozen countries, the Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic lay fraternity in the world.
  • We strive to help members become better husbands, better fathers, better Catholics, and better men by enabling them to protect their families, serve their Church, and serve their community.
  • In the last decade, the Knights of Columbus have donated more than $1.55 billion to charitable causes, and have performed 691 million hours of volunteer service.
  • Knights have led major charitable initiatives including Coats for Kids, the Ultrasound Initiative, and Christians at Risk, and have also sponsored with organizations such as The Special Olympics and the Global Wheelchair Mission.
  • The Knights of Columbus is also one of the largest life insurers in America, with more than $100 billion of life insurance in force, more than $21 billion of assets under management, and more than two million policies on the books.
  • For 40 consecutive years, the Knights of Columbus have been given the highest possible rating for financial strength by A.M. Best -- currently, A++ (Superior) -- and have been twice recognized as a "World's Most Ethical Company" by the Ethisphere Institute.

Who are our Agents?

The Knights of Columbus has more than 1,500 agents across North America. These men come from all walks of life, with differing levels of sales experience, of insurance experience, and of fraternal experiences. The differences don’t matter. But the similarities do.

All of our successful agents share much in common. All of them are looking to make a good living and a difference. All of them want to be of service to others. All of them enjoy aligning their faith and their work, and all of them came to us in search of the right team and the right company. We're glad they found both

What Do Agents Do?

Knights of Columbus field agents serve an exclusive territory of Knights of Columbus families. Working with their brother Knights, our agents present viable financial and insurance solutions and have regular contact with all of their members.

Agents also serve existing policy holders and their families, provide survivor assistance, and participate in fraternal functions.

Through their special relationship with their agent, Knights of Columbus members, their spouses, and their minor children get exclusive access to our product portfolio, which includes: permanent life insurance, term life insurance, retirement annuities, disability income insurance, and long-term care insurance. Agents also perform or provide access to valuable members services, like survivor assistance and financial needs analyses
